Somebody once said "if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day - but if you give him a net you feed him for life".

News

Here are brief details of some of the latest developments and areas that we are hoping to develop over the next year or so......

Education and Training for Employment / Business Creation

June 2007 - With our help a number of women in the Dau Community trained as dressmakers. Tools With A Mission gave us 6 electric sewing machines which were shipped out and are now being used to make school uniforms for children in the sponsorship program. They have also been able to produce some other items for sale.

December 2008 almost a ton of computers, sewing machines, carpentry and mechanics tools are being shipped for another work creation project being run by one of our mission partners and we are exploring some more opportunities in this area.

January 2009 Two more groups have asked us to provide tools, computers and sewing machines for livelihood projects. Shipping costs have risen - can you help?

Books & Computers for Schools

August 2007 - Our latest development has been in obtaining and shipping almost a quarter of a ton of school text books and 3 computers which we have been able to pass on to two schools (Mantigue Island Elementary School & Christian Gospel Church School, Caloocan) and the YWAM Street Childrens Centre in Cagayan De Oro.

August 2008 we have had more requests for books and educational equipment; this time for a school in Cagayan De Oro specialising in helping children with disabilites and learning difficulties, a street childrens project in Butuan City and a home for girls rescued from abuse.

December 2008 We despatched a consignment of books, clothes, computers, sewing machines, mobility aids and medical equipment to Procare Special School, Project Destiny Butuan and Nehemiah House Cagayan De Oro.

February 2009 Consignments shipped in December arrived safely in the Philippines

November 2008 - This is a major new project to establish a residential home for some of the street children. It is intended to be a place where they can be encouraged to grow and develop socially and pursue their education. A charitable foundation has been registered in the Philippines and they are now searching for land to build on. Fund raising is under way. You can assist this project directly by using "Easy Search".

January 2009 A plot of land has now been bought in Canitoan district and we are now actively fundraising to pay for the building.

June 2009 - Plans are finalised and building work should commence very shortly.

July 2009 - Building work commenced

Medical Equipment

April 2009. Meeting with various local partners in the Philippines we have been asked to help provide mobility aids and medical equipment to assist development in poor communities where people cannot afford to pay for health treatment. We can access any amount of equipment through Aid to Hospitals Worldwide but we need more funds to cover the shipping costs.

Children's Ministry Network

March 2008 - we were delighted to participate in the inaugural conference to establish the Kagay-an Children's Ministry Network - bringing together more than 30 churches and other organisations working with "at risk" children in Cagayn De Oro City. We anticipate that this will be a partnership that will see us embarking on several new projects in the future.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you

invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
